A blog dedicated to teaching positive information, feeding, researching, and caring for all kinds of squirrels everywhere, especially in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
I will post a blog whenever I think of a squirrel awareness tip, to talk about my pet squirrels, or when I go "squirrel hiking". The latter is hiking with the intent of watching squirrels.
The main reason why I like squirrels so much is because they are fascinating creatures. There were events in my life that triggered my interest. First, I had a general interest in rodents at age 12, but I narrowed it down to just the squirrel family in my late teens. The squirrel interest may have started with a tame female gray squirrel that a friend of mine and his mom allowed into their house. This squirrel lived outside, but would she come indoors for treats. After this I wanted to know all there is about squirrels. So I've read about the 270+ species of squirrels from all around the world, and I was hooked! I've also hand-fed and petted wild squirrels on college campuses (not recommended; don't just pet ANY wild squirrel.)

I'm sorry you're having financial woes but who isn't these days? Today I was lucky enough to see the Mamma squirrel(fox) that lives up in our Live Oak Tree, bring her 4 babies out into the world for the first time! They're so adorable! She's been fascinating to watch because I also feed the birds and she's an acrobat getting into that birdfeeder! I have moved it so the birds can have some but there's a smaller feeder nearer the ground that she can still get to! How many babies can a squirrel have in a litter? These were so darn cute, about 4-5 inches long and so curious! Just wanted to share! Hope everything gets better for you soon! ~Joan
